Service.— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) December 13, 2017Sergio Aguero completed another memorable night for Guardiola’s record-breakers late on, finishing a mazy run with a wonderful finish into the bottom corner. City, who made four changes from the game at Old Trafford, started in typically dominant fashion and came close early on when Fernandinho’s sweetly struck volley was repelled by Fabianski. The visitors were far from their fluid best in the opening quarter – with just two off-target Aguero headers to show for their efforts – but deservedly broke the deadlock shortly before the half-hour mark..Bernardo Silva’s teasing cross was inexplicably left by the Swans backline and his namesake, David, was on the receiving end to impudently flick past the exposed Fabianksi.Bernardo & David— Benjamin Mendy (@benmendy23) December 13, 2017It took just seven more minutes for City to bag their second as De Bruyne’s dipping free-kick from the corner of the penalty area bounced awkwardly in front of Fabianski and flashed past him into the net. Silva should have scored his second immediately after the interval, but somehow contrived to skew wide after lovely interplay between De Bruyne and Aguero had released him inside the area.Aguero was then denied by Fabianksi before Silva atoned for that earlier miss with a goal of the highest quality. The 31-year-old collected Raheem Sterling’s pass inside the area, moved the ball out of his feet, and clipped a wonderful finish over the onrushing Fabianski for his fifth goal of the season. The horribly over-worked Swans goalkeeper made a fine save from Sterling just moments later and Aguero flashed wide as City threatened to run riot. Aguero did finally get on the scoresheet with five minutes remaining as he blazed past the beleaguered Swans defence and stroked into the bottom corner – a fitting way to end a landmark evening for Guardiola’s men.Key Opta Stats:- Manchester City have set a new outright record of 15 consecutive wins in the English top-flight. Nautilus Urges UK to Tackle Seafarer Exploitation

first_imgzoom In the light of new figures showing exploitation in the shipping industry is widespread, the maritime trade union Nautilus International has called on the UK government to address the issue. The union has again warned of the plight of seafarers working on foreign-flagged ships in British waters, who are receiving minimal or no pay and “suffering atrocious conditions” following the publication of a report from the National Crime Agency (NCA) showing there are as many as 13,000 victims of modern slavery in the UK, with some 300 current policing operations.Nautilus recently highlighted the deplorable conditions seafarers suffered onboard a Turkish ship detained in the UK port of Runcorn. The crew, who were being paid wages as low as USD 0.85 an hour, had to endure a cockroach infestation, had no fresh food and were found to be owed almost USD 74,000 in back pay following checks by Nautilus/ITF inspector Tommy Molloy. As a result, the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) and the UK Border Force detained the vessel for a number of health and safety violations directly related to the substandard conditions onboard. After the expiration of the crew’s leave of stay, they had effectively become illegal workers with no protections and faced deportation. The combined efforts of the Nautilus/ITF inspector, the MCA and the UK Border Force finally resulted in payment of owed wages and the repatriation of the seafarers to their homes following lengthy prevarication by the vessel’s operator, Voda Shipping of Turkey, according to Nautilus.“We’re calling on the government to affirm its commitments in tackling modern slavery in the shipping industry. There is an “out of sight and out of mind” attitude towards conditions in some parts of the industry where seafarers are being exploited, but it won’t come as a surprise to those working in the industry that these practices are happening,” Mark Dickinson, Nautilus general secretary, said.Despite the Modern Slavery Act, which came into law in 2015, and international legislation, “we’re finding that some shipowners are continuing to profiteer at the expense of crew,” Dickinson added.last_img

South West Health To Test Cancer Education Program

Cancer Care Nova Scotia today, Oct. 7, announced the introductionof the Oncology Interactive Education Series (OIES), aninteractive, computer-based cancer-education program forpatients, their families and health professionals. The program was developed in Canada by Jack Digital Productionsin collaboration with Toronto’s Princess Margaret Hospital. NovaScotia is the first province to test it. South West Health is oneof the five health districts piloting the program. “Hearing the words, ‘you have cancer,’ is traumatic,” said Dr.Andrew Padmos, commissioner, Cancer Care Nova Scotia. “There areso many questions, so many fears, many of which can be alleviatedif patients have access to quality cancer information.Information puts people back in the driver’s seat. It helps themunderstand their treatment options and make informed decisions. “For health professionals, access to quality patient educationhelps them support their patients. And, research also indicatesthat it leads to a better understanding of the illness, bettercompliance with treatment and thus better outcomes. OIES willrespond to the needs that patients, families and healthprofessionals have identified and ultimately lead to bettercancer care.” Each of the 24 cancer-type specific titles in the series containsbetween 18 and 25 hours of information. Each topic follows thepatient experience, providing information about diseaseprevention, early detection, symptoms, diagnosis, staging, treatment options, nutrition, pain management, psychosocial careand community support services. It also provides answers to anumber of commonly asked questions. The learning is supported bythree dimensional anatomy, patient experiences and cleargraphics. “We are very pleased to have the Oncology Interactive EducationSeries available in South West Health,” said patient navigatorDarolyn Walker. “It has become a valuable resource to both healthprofessionals and patients who are seeking quality cancerinformation.” OIES is designed to meet the need of a broad range of learningstyles, computer experience, literacy levels and language skills.Trained volunteers will help patients, families and healthprofessionals to use OIES. Patients who have access to a computermay also borrow titles from the program’s lending libraries. OIES will be evaluated to measure the use of the tool bypatients, families and health professionals, as well as theirsatisfaction with it. The evaluation will also seek healthprofessionals’ opinions on how best to use the teaching tool aspart of the care process. The decision to implement OIES acrossthe province will be based on evaluation results, which areexpected to be available in June 2005.
